What is Turmeric?
Turmeric is a natural spice which contains an abundance of curcumin an anti-inflammatory ingredient and is what gives turmeric its striking yellow-orange colour. called curcumin; the same compound that gives turmeric its signature yellow-orange hue. According to research, curcumin stimulates the production of T-cells, the main immune cells that fight diseases.
What are the benefits of Turmeric?
Turmeric has been used in Chinese and Indian medicine for thousands of years and in recent years has been researched in modern medicine to verify the ancient medicinal claims that turmeric contains anti- inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties.
Curcumin can also greatly improve the response of antibodies — that the immune system produces to fight infection which demonstrates the potential of turmeric to regulate the immune system.
How to take Turmeric?
Turmeric is a root which looks similar to ginger although smaller. There is not a strong smell from turmeric therefore turmeric powder can easily be added to many dishes and will not distort the taste. Due to the vibrant colour of Turmeric, it will give your dishes a golden colour.
The fresh root can be peeled and grated into food or juiced which I did while I was going through Chemotherapy. (See below for Turmeric Shot recipe), however be warned to use disposable gloves when peeling or grating turmeric as you will have orange fingers.
When cooking with turmeric add black pepper which is a piperine which will help the body ingest the benefits of the turmeric.
What are the health benefits of Ginger?
As well as being an aromatic spice that is fundamental to cuisines around the world, ginger also has many medicinal benefits. The immune-boosting properties of ginger are primarily due to multiple anti- inflammatory compounds — including antioxidants — which protect the human body from damage caused by unstable molecules and free radicals.
Ginger contains strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to boost the immune system and protect the body.
Ginger is also known for its anti nausea benefits just the smell of fresh ginger can halt feelings of nausea.

Method |
In a juicer add your turmeric, ginger and lemons Boil 500ml of water and add juice from turmeric, ginger and lemon Add black pepper and enough honey to make palatable then add bone broth and simmer for a few minutes. Pour into a jug or glass bottle allow to cool then refrigerate. Take a shot of 100ml every day |
